Nutella Swirl Bars

This is going to be a quick post today, I hope you understand.  The movers brought some boxes yesterday so I could start packing.  I am exhausted, and my back is sore after today!  It is a good thing I only have to pack the boxes, not carry them across the house, load the truck and then unload into another place.  I don’t think my body could handle that.  I thought I was in decent shape too, I ran 6 miles on Monday!

I made these bars a couple weeks ago, and they were wonderful.  What isn’t good with Nutella really?  The Nutella does not dominate these bars, just a light swirl…yum!  I might have just the right amount of Nutella left to make these again.  Gotta clean out my pantry, right?!

Nutella Swirl Bars

1/2 cup Butter, melted
1 cup light brown sugar
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 Tbls Nutella

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare 8×8 pan.

Blend the butter and brown sugar together until smooth. Stir in egg and vanilla. Add flour and salt, mix until combined. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Drop teaspoonfuls of Nutella across the top of the batter.  Use a knife to swirl the Nutella throughout the pan.

Bake for 25 – 30 minutes or until it is set, and slightly browned.  Allow to cool completely before cutting and serving.

  6. Hey Erin... I don't know if you saw my news blast on Foodbuzz or not, but a site called blogger index is stealing some blogspot blog posts. My entire blog is being broadcasted and saw is yours, Lizzy's.. and who knows who else. I just wanted to let you know. I don't know what we can do, I requested them to delete my blog three times.. but it's still showing. Sorry to bring this bad news to you today. If you go to their site and type your blog name in the search box you will see your posts come up. All my posts/pictures/recipes are viewable. :(

  11. Isn't it the worst when you get tired like that. I can run six miles too but a flight of stairs leaves me out of breath. Sigh! Good luck with the packing. I am impressed you are still baking away. Not that I mind.

  15. Oh my...these look dangerous! I have been known to eat Nutella straight from the jar, so these bars would be toast in my house! Yum!

  17. It's too bad you don't have a batch to eat while you move. Although, I always found eating while packing lead to extra cleaning on the other end!

  25. You say "Nutella", I say "I'm baking it!". Yum yum!
Oh, and packing boxes is sooo much different than running, you're bound to be sore. Good luck with the packing!

  27. Oh, good luck packing! I'm glad you have movers coming to handle the heavy lifting. Packing and moving takes a whole different set of muscles and type of strength than running does. Baby your back - you only get one! (says the gal whose broken hers several times - don't do that, k?)

These look wickedly delicious, and my youngest would love them EXCEPT that she's wildly allergic to hazelnuts. Is there anything that would work as a reasonable sub for the Nutella?

  28. I can't even believe that you are finding time to post at all, Erin! Those bars do looks so good, though. Good luck with the move!!!

  29. Ayshela - I will do my best not to break my back!! Wickedly allergic to hazelnuts, oh no! You could just use some melted chocolate to swirl in there. If she isn't allergic to peanuts you could use peanut butter, or even those flavor (dark chocolate and white chocolate) peanut butters.
